Six crew members were rescued successfully by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) after the vessel MSV Salamath sank southwest off the coast of India on 14 May.
On 14 May, the MSV Salamath encountered harsh seas and was struck by a powerful wave causing the vessel to sink. The exact cause of the incident remains under investigation, according to authorities. After the MSV Salamath began to sink, the crew abandoned the vessel and took refuge in a small boat.
Shortly after, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) received an alert from a passing LPG tanker which reported spotting a small boat adrift at sea with six individuals onboard. The ICG patrol ship Vikram, responded swiftly and reached the location rescuing all six crewmembers.
In addition, first aid was administered to the rescued individuals. On 15 May, the crew was safely brought ashore at Mangalore Port.
Local media reported that the vessel had been transporting a mixed cargo of cement and construction materials at the time of the incident.
