Due to the intensifying conflict over Kashmir, the Indian government has officially prohibited cargo originating from or exported by Pakistan.
This directive is accompanied by guidance from GAC India, noting that the customs authorities will assess vessel berthing and clearance on a case-by-case basis, the London P&I Club informs. This applies whether the vessel is partially discharging cargo in Pakistan before or after calling at Indian ports, is arriving from Pakistan in ballast, or is scheduled to proceed to Pakistan after visiting India.
Importantly, there are no current restrictions or updated guidelines from Indian authorities regarding Pakistani crew onboard vessels calling at Indian ports. However, crew changes (sign on/off) for Pakistani nationals remain restricted, with no recent changes in that policy.
Shipowners and agents are strongly advised to seek prior clearance from customs authorities for any vessels potentially affected by this prohibition or routing through Pakistan.
