The Skuld P&I Club has issued member advisory regarding increase in fines under Turkish law.
A recent development under Turkish Law applicable to breaches of the “Law on Protection of Life and Property at Sea No. 4922”, along with the Regulation on “General Inspection and Certification of Ships” of 2006, applies to both Turkish and foreign flagged vessels that enter in to Turkish waters and Ports.
New fine levels have come in to effect as of December 2013, and may be levied for each instance of an invalid or incomplete certificate or document. For Turkish flagged vessels there are also additional fines in case of repeat detentions in foreign Ports for deficiencies.
The Skuld P&I Club advises its members to take note and ensure that their vessels comply with the necessary standards before making a call in Turkey.
