The International Maritime Organization (IMO), has expressed their congratulations to Bangladesh on its accession to Hong Kong ship recycling convention.
As Bangladesh is a major ship recycler, ratifying the Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships (Hong Kong Convention), it is paving the way for safe and sustainable ship recycling procedures.

The Government of Bangladesh had made the pledge to ratify the convention during a visit to Bangladesh by Norwegian authorities, the Norwegian Shipping Association, the European Community Shipowners’ Association, the International Chamber of Shipping and BIMCO, between 8-11 May 2023.
