The GoodShipping Program is facilitating the test. The program is a sustainable initiative dedicated to decarbonising ocean freight.


The marine bio-fuel oil has been developed by GoodFuels, after undergoing three years of testing with marine engine manufacturers. The second generation bio-fuel oil does not have forest residues and waste oil products, and is expected to deliver 80-90% well-to-propeller CO2 reduction versus fossil equivalents, and virtually cuts SOx emissions, without requiring engine modifications.

With this collaboration, IKEA Transport & Logistics Services, CMA CGM and the GoodShipping Program aim to show the scalability, sustainability and technical compliance of sustainable marine bio-fuel oil, and boost the development of realistic options to reduce GHG and SOx emissions from shipping.

According to Elisabeth Munck af Rosenschöld, Head of Sustainability, IKEA Global Transport & Logistics Services, the pilot aspires to demonstrate that the means for decarbonisation in terms of alternative fuels are available. She also added that if the pilot is successfully completed, then the intention would be to put the equivalent of at least all of the company's containers out of Rotterdam on biofuel.
