A 56 year old male worker, who was working at the the INPEX-operated ‘Ichthys LNG project’ in Bladin Point, outside of Darwin in Australia, lost his life after a workplace incident occurred, on 29 of November.
Specifically, the deceased man was working in a confined space, and was installing insulation within a tank when the incident occurred, at approximately 8pm local time.
A prohibition notice was issued at 3.00am today stopping all insulation work within tanks on the Bladin Point Construction Site, NT WorkSafe informed.
NT WorkSafe has also released a statement, noting the following: “NT WorkSafe would like to correct the misinformation being reported by the media on the cause of the fatality at Bladin Point Construction Site overnight. The fatality was not as a result of a ‘falling from a great height’ as reported by one media outlet, or falling from a height after breaking through temporary flooring, as reported by another.”
WorkSafe Inspectors are currently on the site conducting their investigation.
As the Japanese oil company ‘Inpex’ informed, the construction have stopped for today on the site and the company is providing counselling to the workers at the Ichthys LNG project.
Ichthys LNG is located about 220 kilometres offshore Western Australia, and it represents the largest discovery of hydrocarbon liquids in Australia. The project consists of three mega-projects rolled into one, involving some of the largest offshore facilities in the industry, a state-of-the-art onshore processing facility and an 890 km pipeline uniting them for an operational life of at least 40 years.
