Hyundai Mipo Dockyard along with Korea Maritime Transport and the Korean Register shake their hands and inked a MoU for the Joint Development Project (JDP) of a 1.800TEU class container ship.
Through their collaboration, partners will develop a ballast-free container vessel with the aim of circumventing the need for ballast tanks and fight marine pollution.
This joint research project will enable Hyundai Mipo Dockyard to develop an efficient and environmentally friendly container ship, while continue the cooperation and technical support with Korea Shipping .

Concerning the stability, suitability and validity of the ballast application will be verified in accordance with applicable rules and relevant international standards.
When the initiative is completed, an AIP (Approval in Principle), a basic classification certificate for optimized container carrier design, will be further granted .
According to the Korean Register, the MoU goals to compare and analyze the capabilities and operational efficiency of economical and eco-friendly containerships.
