Hostage by Somali pirates for 33 long torturous months
MPHRP South Asia Regional Director South Asia, Mr Chirag Bahri, assisted one of the Yemen based crew of Iceberg 1 with medical support during his treatment in Mumbai.
Mr Hafez Saleh was Second Officer on the hijacked vessel, MV Iceberg 1 and was held hostage by Somali pirates for 33 long torturous months. On his return to Yemen in January 2013, MPHRP was in regular contact with the survivor along with other crewmembers of the vessel. Mr Hafez was referred for his treatment in Mumbai and has been provided with guidance from Mr Bahri during his hospitalisation and further required medical tests in Mumbai.
Mr Saleh was accompanied to Mumbai by his wife and brother and all were hosted by Mr Bahri whilst in the city. The family was very thankful to MPHRP for all their humanitarian support and are happy that Mr Saleh is recovering now. They look forward to returning to their home soon.
MPHRP is committed to provide humanitarian support to piracy affected seafarers and families at any stage of their life.
