Yemen’s Houthis have claimed responsibility for recent attacks on commercial vessels near Yemen’s Red Sea port of Hodeidah.
On 2 October, the Panama-flagged tanker M/T Cordelia Moon was damaged approximately 64 nautical miles northwest of Hodeidah. The vessel, which was in ballast condition, sustained damage to its port side but reported that its crew was safe. Prior to the impact, the crew had observed splashes in the water nearby, suggesting attempted missile strikes.
Another vessel, a Liberia-flagged bulk carrier, was hit by a missile about 97 nautical miles northwest of Hodeidah while en route to Suez.
