Hong Kong conducted its first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation on 14 February.
Kunlun Energy carried out the operation on 14 February with its LNG bunkering vessel supplying 2,200 tons of cryogenic LNG to the ZIM AQUAMARINE, according to local media outlets.
The operation was attended by representatives from various Hong Kong government departments, including the Transport and Logistics Bureau, the Environment and Ecology Bureau, the Marine Department, and the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department.
Additionally, several other stakeholders from the shipping and energy sectors in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area were present.
Speaking at the accompanying ceremony, Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan, pointed out that the HKSAR Government seized the opportunity to publish the Action Plan for Green Bunkering in November last year to address the growing market demand for these green fuels and echo the country’s green shipping strategy.
Moreover, the Marine Department has also set up a task force to provide one-stop services to green shipping-related organisations interested in setting up in Hong Kong.
To remind, earlier this month, Hong Kong conducted an LNG bunkering operation with insiders suggesting it was a “trial run”.
