HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) and QatarEnergy have signed a contract for the construction of seventeen LNG carriers.
According to Korean news, the vessels will be constructed by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, Korea, and delivered during the latter half of 2029. The contract, valued at approximately 5.2511 trillion won (US$3.8676 billion), is the largest order ever placed with a Korean shipbuilder.
Each of the ordered LNG carriers will measure 299 metres in length, 46,4 metres in width, and 26.5 metres in height. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) in Ulsan, Korea, will construct the vessels.
This order is in line with Qatar Energy’s intentions to increase its annual LNG output from 77 million tonnes to 126 million tonnes by 2027.
