HD Hyundai Heavy Industries – Engine & Machinery recently secured a deal with Tsuneishi shipbuilding for a total of 16 sets (4 vessels) of HiMSEN methanol dual fuel engine with SCR as package delivery.
Tsuneishi shipbuilding has announced that the construction of the vessels will take place at the Tsuneishi Zhoushan Shipyard in China. The shipyard will receive the engines in a sequential manner, starting from January 2025. In the first half of 2023, The HD Hyundai Heavy Industries – Engine & Machinery also signed a supply contract with Imabari shipbuilding for a total of 75 sets (15 Container vessels).
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries – Engine & Machinery expects to increase orders further for HiMSEN dual fuel engines as the demand for eco-friendly ships increases. Generally, the use of methanol as a marine fuel has been shown to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, making it an attractive option for the shipping industry’s efforts to become more environmentally friendly.
Generally, the use of methanol is becoming a reality. For instance, the world’s first container ship fuelled by methanol, Laura Maersk, recently completed its 21,500-kilometer journey from the Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South Korea all the way to Copenhagen.
