HD Hyundai Oilbank Co., backed by Aramco, started to supply Taiwan’s Yang Ming Marine Transport with bio very low sulfur fuel oil (bio VLSFO).
As reported, it’s the first South Korean company to export bio VLSFO to an overseas firm. The exported Bio VLSFO was produced using VLSFO with a sulfur content of 0.5 percent or less.
A VLSFO (very-low-sulphur fuel oil) is an umbrella term for any compliant marine fuel that has a maximum sulphur content of 0.50% and is not a wholly distillate fuel.
Furthermore, bio VLSFO is a mixture of conventional ship fuel and biodiesel. Bio VLSFO does not require modifications to ship engines or fuel supply systems, and can be distributed using existing infrastructure.
According to reports, the project is led by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Petroleum Quality & Distribution Authority.
