HD Hyundai shipbuilding subsidiaries have entered an agreement with platform solution companies such as Siemens, Dassault Systèmes, Aviva, Napa, and Cadmatic to develop an integrated design-production consolidation platform, according to local news.
HD Hyundai subsidiaries – HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, HD Hyundai Samho and HD Hyundai Mipo – signed joint development business agreements with Siemens, Dassault Systèmes, Aviva, Napa, and Cadmatic and have been making preliminary preparations to start building the platform.
Currently, various systems are used for ship design and production, such as CAD (Computer-Aided Design) that designs 3D models of ships, PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) that manages the entire ship life cycle, and DM (Digital Manufacturing) that plans and analyzes the manufacturing process using digital technology to optimize and reflect it in actual production.
According to the reports, the design and production integration platform integrates these systems into one, and HD Hyundai plans to be the first in the domestic shipbuilding industry to build a digital automated production system that manages all data from ship design to production on a single platform.
Through this, the goal is to reduce inefficiencies caused by data disconnection between processes and achieve productivity innovation.
Furthermore, HD Hyundai plans to conduct initial development of integrated platforms with each solution company by the end of next year. Then the most optimized solution will be selected for the shipbuilding industry and begin detailed development in 2026.
Reportedly, the design and production integration platform aims to be completed by 2028 after approximately two years of development.
Moreover, according to the reports, once this platform is completed, the process of analyzing data collected from the production site to identify problems and modify the design based on this will take place in a ‘virtuous cycle of shipbuilding’. Through this the quality of ships is expected to improve as well as process efficiency.
Reportedly, this will play a key role in creating a digital manufacturing environment necessary for the construction of the Future of Shipyard (FOS), which HD Hyundai is pursuing with the goal of completion by 2030.
