Hapag-Lloyd will install live trackers on all its containers at the end of August, aiming to offer visibility and boost transparency across the supply chain.
The news come after the decision by Hapag-Lloyd to become the first carrier in the world to apply technology to enable worldwide monitoring of shipping containers and analyse the location, movements, and status in real-time.
Once the devices are permanently installed on our containers, they will be able to transmit data in real time and thereby make supply chains more transparent and efficient
said the company in its recent statement.
These devices will provide GPS-based location data, measure temperatures, and monitor sudden vibrations of the container.
During August, the company will start to equip its container fleet with devices from TradeTech company Nexxiot AG and with devices from ORBCOMM, a provider of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions.
Customers will begin to get access to the technology in early 2023. The entire fleet will become live trackable by the end of 2023 according to the company.
