Hapag-Lloyd has unveiled its “Live Position” dry container tracking product, marking the first of its kind in the industry.
This technology aims to provide customers with complete visibility into their shipments’ locations throughout the transportation process. With over two thirds of its dry container fleet already equipped with tracking devices. Key features of “Live Position” include a user-friendly interface and search functionality by container, booking number, or batches.
Dr. Maximilian Rothkopf, COO of Hapag-Lloyd, emphasized that “Live Position” enhances service quality by eliminating blind spots in global logistics, enabling real-time decision-making and risk mitigation for customers, while also facilitating more efficient fleet management.
According to the company, Hapag-Lloyd is demonstrating its commitment to deploying pioneering IoT (Internet of Things) technology in logistics on a large scale. More than two thirds of the dry container fleets have already been equipped with tracking devices. Installations continue globally to catch the last boxes during the summer.
Additionally, Henrik Schilling, Head of Global Commercial Development, highlighted the product’s success during the pilot phase and expresses a commitment to further development. Plans include integrating tracking data into customers’ operational systems via API and implementing Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) Prediction.
To remind, according to data from the World Shipping Council, during the year of 2022, a total of 661 were lost at sea.
