A crane worker was injured after the giant container ship ‘MSC MIA’ collided with a gantry crane while manoeuvring at the Spanish Port of Valencia, in the morning hours of Sunday.
The 23,756TEU-ship was executing a docking manoeuvre when a ship part became entangled with a crane cable, taking the crane down to water, local reports say. The accident occurred shortly after 9 am.
Seeing the crane damaged, the injured worker was able to warn the rest of the workers of what was going to happen.
The firemen have been able to rescue the worker, who was hospitalized with broken ribs, but he is out of danger.
The port is now working on the removal of the crane remains.
