The general cargo vessel CABRERA ran aground on northern coast of Andros Island, Greece, Aegean Sea, early in the morning Dec 24 and sank, while en route from Larimna Greece to Tornio Finland, with cargo of iron or steel.
According to Greek CG, weather was to blame, but according to AIS track, it looks more like navigational error, FleetMon reports. Vessel said to be hard aground, with 45 degrees list, 9 crew were evacuated by helicopter.
Pollution reported around the vessel, both in forms of numerous debris and oil leak of some 500 sq. meters.
