Following the IMO 2020 regulation concerning the global sulphur limit for marine fuel, BIMCO, ICS, INTERCARGO and INTERTANKO had launched a survey on fuel oil quality and safety back in February. In remind to this, the four organisations call all vessel managers, as well as technical superintendents to share their insight.
As the organization informed:
To ensure a high validity of the survey, and a correct assessment of the situation, it is important that as many people as possible respond. We therefore appreciate all answers and input from members in our bid to get an understanding of any issues encountered by the industry.
In fact, the survey will end on Wednesday 6 May. Until then shiponwers and operators can provide their experiences in relation to the new IMO 2020 compliant fuels.
For the records, the survey pays attention to the issues they may arise from the IMO 2020 transition, such as increased sludge discharge, clogging of fuel pipes, preheaters, fuel separators and fuel filters, fuel pumps getting stuck, problems with fuel injection and poor ignition of fuel oil.
It also focuses on other issues regarding incomplete combustion, wax appearance and increased wear and tear of cylinder liners; all problems that in the end may lead to loss of propulsion and/or black out.
