Following the major disruption of the ferry sector as an obvious COVID-19 impact, the French government announced a payroll to help the ferry companies.
Specifically, Reuters reports that France will reimburse 30 million euros in payroll costs to French ferry companies hit by the coronavirus crisis and Brexit, Prime Minister Jean Castex told parliament.
The pandemic has seriously impacted shipping firms, which have been suffering from lower traffic to and from Britain, because of the lockdown measures.
Reuters cited Castex saying “We have decided to reimburse all of Brittany Ferries’ payroll costs for the 2021 financial year. This represents a commitment of around 15 million euros,” adding that an equivalent amount would be offered to other ferry companies.
