As IMO announced, France is the 29th State to sign up to the IMO treaty on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Fishing Vessel Personnel (STCW-F). According to the announcement, the Convention sets the certification and minimum training requirements for crews of seagoing fishing vessels of 24 metres in length and above.
Specifically, during IMO’s Sub-Committee on Human Element, Training and Watchkeeping (HTW 6), which conducted a review from 29 April to May 3, they marked a progress reviewing the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Fishing Vessel Personnel (STCW-F), 1995, which entered into force in 2012.
Ambassador Nicole Taillefer, Permanent Representative of France to IMO, met IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim at IMO Headquarters, London, to deposit the instruments of accession, on 12 June.
During the review of the STCW-F, the Sub-Committee envisages finalization of the revised Convention and new STCW-F Code in the second half of 2021.
