Deaths due to heavy rain
One person was killed while five (5) others were reported missing, due to heavy rains, this was the latest update from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
According to Undersecretary Benito Ramos, the fatality was identified as Reyam Bahan, 7, of Barangay Dona Rosario, Tubay, Agusan Del Norte.
Amado Basadre of Barangay Matingbe, San Francisco, Surigao Del Norte was reported missing when he attempted to cross a river but was carried away by strong current.
A total of four (4) fishermen from Masbate were reported missing after their fishing boat “Daner” were reported missing, they were identified as, Reynaldo Jipa, Jesus Gaupo, Junjun Gaupo all of Bulan, Sorsogon and Ariel Niez of Montreal, Masbate.
A total of 47,725 families were affected in 347 barangays in the provinces of Misamis Oriental, Agusan Del Norte, Agusan Del Sur, Surigao Del Norte, Surigao Del Sur and Dinagat Islands due to widespread rains.
Authorities said that the widespread rains cause by a low pressure area 40 kms. North of Hinatuan Island in Surigao Del Sur may trigger flash floods and landslides. PAGASA advises all residents living in low-lying areas along river banks and along mountain slopes to take all precautionary measures.
Fishermen in Luzon, Visayas and Eastern Mindanao are advised not to venture out into the sea due to big waves generated by strong to gale force northeasterly winds.
A total of 1,761 families are now housed in 23 evacuation centers. While a total of 61 houses were damaged in Surigao Del Norte.
