Four Crew Rescued After Fishing Vessel Sinks In The North Sea
At 12.54 pm, Aberdeen Coastguard received a Mayday Relay call from the fishing vessel Resilient LK195. The Resilient was relaying a Mayday call they had picked up from the Fraserburgh registered fishing vessel Esorah FR317. The Esorah, a 15 metre fishing vessel, with four crew had made the mayday call giving their position and that the vessel was taking water.
Aberdeen Coastguard issued a mayday relay broadcast and three offshore support vessels as well as the Resilient made their way to the distress position. The supply vessel Porto Salvo arrived along with the dive support vessel Acergy Osprey and subsequently located a liferaft with the four crew from Esorah. The Portosalvo took the crew onboard and Coastguard rescue helicopter R102 from Sumburgh was scrambled and winched the crew into the aircraft and brought them to Aberdeen
The weather at the time wind Northwesterly 35-40 knots, sea rough, 5 metre swell.
Colin Wood, Watch Officer, Aberdeen Coastguard said:
The crew of this fishing vessel were very fortunate they were able to evacuate to their liferaft after making their mayday call, even though they were unable to give any information about their distress situation, they transmitted the most important piece of information, their position.
Fortunately, there were other vessels not too far away, who were able to get their quickly and get them onboard.
