Relief goods to victims of tropical storm
A Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) ship bogged down off Mindoro as it was on its way to deliver relief goods to victims of tropical storm “Sendong” (international name: Washi) in Cagayan de Oro City.
Radio dzBB’s Carlo Mateo reported that theship “BRP Pampanga” (Search and Rescue Vessel/SARV-003)had to proceed to the Batangas Port for repairs.
Coast Guard spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Algier Ricafrente said the PCG isstudying an option to commission a private ship to ferry the relief goods on Friday if the BRP Pampanga could not be repaired right away.
Earlier this month, tropical storm “Sendong” brought floods that devastated parts of Mindanao and Visayas. Cagayan de Oro and Iligan Cities were among the worst-hit areas.
As of Tuesday morning, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said the death toll had risen to 1,453, while the damage to property was at P1.144 billion
