The UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) announced that eight foreign-flagged ships were under detention in UK ports during August 2018, after failing Port State Control (PSC) inspection. From these, there were five new detentions of foreign flagged vessels in a UK port, while three vessels remained under detention from previous months. A total of three vessels remained under detention at the end of August.
New detentions
- The Switzerland-flagged ‘Luzern’ was detained on 7th August 2018 at Belfast, found with six deficiencies with one ground for detention related to ISM. This vessel was released on 10th August 2018.
- The Norway-flagged ‘Vikingfjord’ was detained on 8th August 2018 at Grimsby. 14 deficiencies with two grounds for detention, related to Loadline and ISM, were found onboard. This vessel was released on 9th August 2018.
- The Norway-flagged ‘Siem Commander’ was detained on 10th August 2018 at Falmouth with six deficiencies. Three were grounds for detention, related to fire dampers, launching arrangements for rescue boats, and ISM. This vessel was released on 12th August 2018.
- The Liberia-flagged ‘Tungor’ was detained on 13th August 2018 at Ellesmere Port, found with 10 deficiencies with two grounds for detention, relating to cleanliness of the engine room and ISM. This vessel was released on 23rd August 2018.
- The Netherlands-flagged ‘H&S Prudence’ was detained on 13th August 2018 at Immingham. 12 deficiencies were found onboard, with one ground for detention, related to ISM.
Detentions carried over from previous months
- The Icelandic-flagged ‘Poseidon’, found with 10 deficiencies, two of which were detainable, was detained on 19th July 2018 at Hull. This vessel was still detained on 31st August 2018.
- The Russian-flagged ‘Tecoil Polaris’ was detained on 6th June 2018 at Immingham, after found with 27 deficiencies with eight grounds for detention. This vessel was still detained on 31st August 2018.
- The unregistered ‘Cien Porciento’ was detained on 4 March 2010 with 30 deficiencies, including seven grounds for detention. This vessel was still detained on 31st August 2018.
