STAX Engineering has secured a five-year agreement with Toyota Motor North America to provide emissions capture and control services for vessels at Toyota’s Port of Long Beach berth, starting in 2025.
This partnership aligns with new California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulations and will make STAX the exclusive emissions control provider for roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) vessels in California. This initiative aligns with new California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulations and will target roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) vessels, removing 99% of particulate matter (PM) and 95% of nitrogen oxides (NOx). The plan aims to control over 47 tons of emissions across 3,700 hours of service during the contract period.
This emissions control effort offers an alternative to shore power with mobile technology, avoiding costly retrofits for vessels. It is part of a broader strategy to improve air quality and environmental health in California’s major ports.
So far, over 5,000 hours of vessel emissions control have been implemented, mitigating 39 tons of pollutants.
