The Canal closed for a few hours and tugs were deployed to move the vessels. Nevertheless, a little later the container ship NYK Orpheus hit Panamax Alexander, causing further damages.
According to information, the three bulkers are still anchored, but the container ships were able to continue their voyages.
In addition, a few days before this incident, on July 13, the Okeanis crude oil tanker ‘Kimolos’ sustained damages to its hull after contacting bottom while transiting Suez Canal. Okeanis Eco Tankers informed that there were no injuries or pollution from the incident.
The vessel was laden with fuel oil and was under pilotage. All 23 crew of the ship are safe, while no pollution has been reported.
‘Kimolos’ continued its transit under its own power, heading to a safe anchorage where further inspections will be carried out.
