According to local reports, a pipe-laying vessel working in Azerbaijan for Italian oilfield service provider Saipem reportedly caught fire on Wednesday, May 8. The vessel was operating in Caspian Sea when the fire broke out.
Allegedly, Saipem commented on local sources that the pipe-laying vessel Israfil Huseynov, which was carrying out work for Saipem, caught fire on May 8, at about 18:30.
The fire on the vessel resulted to 14 injuries. The injured crewmembers suffer burn injuries in various degrees.
After the fire was reportedly extinguished, the crewmembers were transmitted to the Baku coast by the Citadel platform supply vessel.
For the time being, investigations are being conducted to find out what caused the fire.
