Oil workers have been evacuated after a fire broke out on a vessel off the coast of Shetland, North Sea, on April 2.
Namely, coastguard helicopters from Sumburgh and Stornoway were called to a fire on the Petrojarl Foinaven floating production storage vessel at 15:00.
A number of crew were evacuated to nearby installations, and the incident is thought to be under control.
The vessel, which is about 95 nautical miles west of Sumburgh, is in the process of being decommissioned.
Speaking about the incident, a BP spokesman said:
BP is working with its duty holder Altera Infrastructure following the incident on the Foinaven Petrojarl floating production storage offload (FPSO) vessel
BP also added that the incident, involving a fire in a store room, was quickly brought under control and 30 non-essential personnel were safely transferred to nearby installations as a precaution.
Just a year ago, BP announced it was suspending operations on the vessel which has been at the Foinaven field since 1997. According to the company, the vessel was a pioneer in the North Sea, serving the first deepwater development on the UK Continental Shelf and in the region west of Shetland.
