On the evening of June 3, a small fire broke out aboard the RoRo ferry Splendid, operated by Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV), while it was docked in the port of Genoa, Italy.
The fire was traced to the exhaust system of one of the ship’s generators. The incident occurred around 9:00 PM and was promptly reported by an onboard operator who noticed smoke and initiated a manual shutdown of the affected generator.
Two firefighting teams from shore and a fireboat responded quickly. As a precaution, the ship, occupied only by crew at the time, was evacuated during the intervention. The flames were swiftly contained, and no injuries were reported.
Authorities confirmed that the damage was limited to the generator’s exhaust system and that the vessel had not suffered any structural damage.
Following a full inspection, GNV announced that Splendid was ready to depart.
