The Ro-Pax ferry ‘Men Del Norte II’ partially sank following collision with the berthed cargo ship ‘BBC Zarate’ on the Amazon River in Peru, in the morning hours of Friday, 15 February.
At the time of the incident, the Ro-Pax was cruising down the river, while the Antigua-flagged freighter ‘BBC Zarate’ was carrying out cargo operations at the time.
The ferry’s crew reportedly lost control, causing their vessel’s starboard side near the midship section to impact against the bow of the freighter.
The ferry was cut in two as a result from the incident, which caused it to partially sink, local media reported.
Rescue teams arrived at the scene shortly after and evacuated all of Men Del Norte II’s passengers and crew to safety. There were no injuries reported.
