In light of COVID-19 second wave and the vaccine development stage, DP World-owned ro/ro and freight ferry operator, P&O Ferries plans to deliver the vaccines to the UK, for free.
As the UK became the first to grant the vaccine temporary approval, P&O Ferries said it would transport the vaccines even if it was not being paid.
According to local media sources, the UK has ordered 40 million doses of the vaccine made by Pfizer.
Although, importing them is a complex operation, since they need to be stored in temperatures of minus 70C to minus 80C.
In light of the situation, DP World stated:
We stand ready to support the Government in getting all the necessary vaccines into the UK. What’s more, we are willing to do this work for free should we be asked to do so, to help play our part in getting the UK through the pandemic as fast as possible.
