Following the strong wind and the rough seas conditions, the 8,452 TEU “Ever Liberal” container ship lost 36 containers, as Taiwan shipping company Evergreen Marine Corporation reported.
Specifically, at the time of the incident, the vessel was en route to Los Angeles after departing the Port of Busan.
As the company explained, the bad weather off Kyushu, Japan caused the collapse of container stacks on the vessel. In fact, 21 containers fell onto the deck, while another 36 fell into the water.
In addition, the containers contain no hazardous items, and thankfully no personnel were injured during the incident.
In light of the situation, the vessel has been diverted to the Port of Taipei in order to take stock of the damaged cargo before resuming its journey to Los Angeles.
