Bahamas Maritime Authority (BMA) has issued a Technical Alert to raise awareness of a manufacturing defect in some Eusabi water mist heads which may result in failure of the heads to activate, based on a Safety Bulletin issued by the Bermuda Shipping and Maritime Authority (BSMA).
In particular, the Bermuda Safety Bulletin raises awareness of a manufacture defect with batch number (0451/18) of type 3IXX574.0 water mist heads which may result in failure of the heads to operate as designed in the event of a fire. Subsequent investigation indicates the fault to be a result of insufficient lubrication to a batch of water mist heads during the manufacture process. The aforementioned Safety Bulletin 2023-01 is attached as an Annex to this Alert (please see below)
Companies operating Bahamian ships fitted with automatic firefighting systems manufactured by Eusabi Impianti, which include type 3IXX574.0 mist heads should
review the Bermuda Safety Bulletin to establish if any of the affected heads have been fitted. If any of the affected heads are present in the system, testing should be carried out as per Marine Notice 80 and/or a programme of refurbishment carried out in consultation with the manufacturer.
