Following the launch of the European Green Deal, the European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO) expressed its support, welcoming EU’s ambition in becoming the world’s first climate neutral continent by 2050.
Welcoming the Green Deal, ESPO highlighted that the publication is of great importance, marking the beginning of discussions concerning how the EU ports can participate in the developing concrete plan, what policy and what financial instruments are needed to support EU ports in the project.
Given that European ports are the crossroads of supply chains, their role in EU’s economy ans society is crucial.
Also, ESPO’s Secretary General Isabelle Ryckbost commented that
The publication of the European Green Deal is an important milestone … We are looking forward to working with the Commission, Parliament and Council in shaping the policy.
Concluding, following the reveal of the European Green Deal, which Ursula von der Leyen announced on the sidelines of the UN Climate Conference (COP 25) underway in Madrid, it was announced that in March 2020 the Commission will propose the first-ever European Climate Law to make the transition to climate neutrality irreversible.
