The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate announced that it has granted Equinor Energy AS a drilling permit for well 6507/2-5 S cf. Section 15 of the Resource Management Regulations. Equinor Energy AS is the operator with an ownership interest of 40%.
Well 6507/2-5 S will be drilled from the West Phoenix drilling facility, after completing the drilling of wildcat well 16/1-30 S for Equinor Energy AS in production licence 167.

The drilling programme for well 6507/2-5 S relates to the drilling of a wildcat well in production licence 942. Equinor Energy AS is the operator with an ownership interest of 40%, while the other licensees are Wellesley Petroleum AS with 30% and Aker BP with 30% as well.
The area in this licence contains part of block 6507/1 and part of block 6507/2. The well will be drilled about seven kilometres southwest of the Marulk field.
Production licence 942 was granted on 2 March 2018, while this is the first well to be drilled in the licence.
The permit mandates that the operator will secure all other permits and consents necessary by other authorities before starting the drilling activity.
