The first day of two co-located events in Barcelona, Gastech, the global exhibition and conference at the forefront of the international gas, LNG and energy industries, and GPEX, the global event showcasing strategies and technologies for global energy transition, was successfully concluded.
Launching its 30th edition, the opening ceremony of Gastech 2018 was inaugurated by King Felipe VI of Spain, who invited the six consortium members to discuss key issues.
Gastech’s plenary session comprised Saad Sherida al-Kaabi, CEO, Qatar Petroleum, Maarten Wetselaar, Integrated Gas and New Energies Director and member of the executive committee, Royal Dutch Shell, Alexander Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Management Committee, Gazprom, and Josu Jon Imaz, CEO, Repsol. The session was moderated by CNBC anchor Steve Sedgwick.
The Gastech global leaders’ panel examined the transitional impacts of the new energy landscape on the gas industry and discussed the future of gas in delivering global energy post 2020.
Day One of the inaugural GPEX began with an official Government welcome address, followed by a global energy outlook from Lazlo Varro, Chief Economist, International Energy Agency, and panel discussions on subjects including financing the transition to a low carbon energy system and facilitating the new energy landscape.
Our decision to co-locate both events has brought the two energy communities of gas and power together to discuss the future of the energy market and the significance of gas and renewables in the energy mix. Both Gastech and GPEX have reported a highly successful Day One with impressive visitor numbers and excellent high quality insight on the future of the gas, LNG, power and energy industries,
…said Nick Ornstien, Vice President Energy – UK, dmg events.
Both Gastech and GPEX are being held in the Fira Gran Via, Barcelona, until Thursday, 20 September.
The Gastech exhibition is bringing together over 700 global exhibiting companies and 30,000 visitors from across the up, mid and downstream gas, LNG and energy industries worldwide.
The Gastech technical conference has been expanded this year to include upstream exploration and field development, through processing, pipelines and shipping to downstream petrochemicals and power generation.
Meanwhile, GPEX 2018 will address the theme of the energy transition, providing an in-depth and thought-provoking examination of the strategies, technologies and innovations shaping our energy future. The event will see collaboration between international power and energy leaders, to examine long-term changes in the way energy is produced, distributed and consumed.
The GPEX exhibition features a technical knowledge theatre, with daily presentations offering proven and practical examples of successful projects, and case studies of new technologies, processes and business models.
