Elenger, an Eesti Gaas subsidiary, began LNG bunkering operations in the port of Helsinki. The ship bunkered was the same that Eesti Gaas bunkered in the port of Tallinn, namely the shuttle Megastar which operates between Helsinki and Tallinn.
Megastar will be truck-to-ship bunkered in the port of Helsinki one time per week, while the LNG will be mainly delivered from the new Novatek’s LNG plant in Vysotsk.

Commenting on the bunkering operation, Jarko Alanko, the CEO of Elenger Finland, said that while LNG bunkering is a rare sight in the port of Helsinki, it will become one of routine operations in the nearest future. This is because LNG will eventually replace diesel fuel among marine fuels, Mr. Alanko believes.
What is more, Damen is also creating an LNG bunkering ship for Eesti Gaas. The vessel is expected to be completed and start bunkering operations in 2020.
During 2018, Eesti Gaas supplied more 16,000 tonnes of LNG from its procurement sources, with the amount supplied a year before being 12,300 tonnes.
The company also has semi-trailers for LNG transportation and bunkering. Until today, Tallink’s ship Megastar has received LNG bunkers from trucks with LNG in the port of Tallinn more than 1,600 times.
