The curfew in the waters off seven districts in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone), which ended on the 16th December, has now been extended to December 31.
Namely, as sources report, Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hazani Ghazali informed that the curfew regards the waters off Tawau, Semporna, Kunak, Lahad Datu, Kinabatangan, Sandakan and Beluran.
Specifically, those living in the area are not allowed to approach or be in the waters off the seven districts between 6pm and 6am.
The curfew aims to ensure the affected areas are not affected by terrorists, who could threaten security and also to protect the safety and wellbeing of Sabahans in the Esszone.
It also to facilitate the enforcement and monitoring of boat movements, while the presence of security ships would create a sense of security for chalet operators and fishermen in the area.
Finally, district police chiefs in the affected areas have been authorised to issue permits to those applying for fishing activities and to attend to urgent matters during the curfew.
