Holland Shipyards Group has successfully delivered two MPP coasters, Waalvliet and Rijnvliet, on 17 April 2025 at its shipyard in Werkendam.
These vessels, part of a series commissioned by Hartel Shipping & Chartering (Hudig & Veder Group), are designed for the European shortsea market and feature wind propulsion technology to enhance sustainability. Both coasters are 98 meters in length and have a deadweight of approximately 4,200 tons.
The vessels are equipped with a cargo hold featuring a movable tween deck, allowing flexibility for carrying bulk, breakbulk, and containers. The vessels also include a moveable bulkhead and pontoon hatch covers to adapt to various cargo needs.
The Waalvliet and Rijnvliet are powered by a fuel-efficient diesel-electric drivetrain, with the added capability of utilizing wind propulsion to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. The vessels are also designed to accommodate future upgrades to more sustainable propulsion technologies.
We thank Hartel Shipping & Chartering for their trust and look forward to seeing both vessels in action across the European shortsea network.
