SAFETY4SEA is pleased to announce that DNVGL has received the 2020 SMART4SEA Training Award, sponsored by Macgregor, at a prestigious award ceremony which successfully concluded on January the 28th at Yacht Club of Greece in Athens, the evening ahead of the 2020 SMART4SEA Forum.
DNVGL received the award for its Maritime Academy which provides one of the broadest portfolios of training courses for the maritime industry. Operating in more than 100 countries, DNV GL course portfolio is based around three core themes: Developing People, Operating Ships and Building Ships. Other short-listed nominees for this category were: the US Navy, Videotel and VSTEP.

DNVGL’s Maritime Academy provides one of the broadest portfolios of training courses for the maritime industry, offering comprehensive training programs on safety, security, ship technology and many other industry topics. With the aim to address cyber security vulnerability, DNV GL’s Maritime Academy also offers a Maritime Cyber Security Awareness E-learning; the course explains in simple steps how and where cyber-attacks may target IT infrastructure and OT systems on board. The course leverages key safety management practices and shows how they can be applied to cyber security within the maritime and offshore industries and complies with TMSA 3 element 13 and 13.2.4 KPI/best practice. DNV GL’s Maritime Academy operates in more than 100 countries globally and has academy managers in 17 key locations.
DNVGL attracted the most votes by the end of the voting period which held online during a two-month period. SMART4SEA Awards are held annually within the scope of awarding industry’s outstanding practices for e-navigation, connectivity, energy efficiency, cyber security, training and smart shipping technology. Other winners of the 2020 SMART4SEA Awards are: MarineFields Holding Ltd for the e-Navigation Award, OTESAT – MARITEL for the Connectivity Award, LAROS for the Energy Efficiency Award, Wärtsilä for the Cyber Security Award, METIS Cyberspace Technology SA. for the Technology Award, Mr. Dimitris Theodossiou, Managing Director, DANAOS Management Consultants S.A.for the Personality Award and Mr. Tor A. Svanes, Managing Director, NAVTOR AS for the Leadership Award.
