An easy tool to help ship owners and operators
In close cooperation with the industry, DNV has developed an environmental and energy efficiency rating scheme for ships, in a voluntary basis, irrespective of class, age and flag of vessels, the Triple-ETM.
This scheme aims to help operators, through self-assessment, to demonstrate active environmental management and energy efficient transportation of goods, which has been verified by an independent third party. It is applicable for new and existing ships and has four rating levels from 4 to 1 (where 1 is the highest).
To reach a specific level, all the requirements stated for this level and the levels below it have to be complied with. For each of these levels, there are requirements within the areas of management, operation and design.
The Triple-E is an easy tool to help ship owners and operators stay at the forefront with regard to emerging ‘green shipping’ rules and regulations and at the same time focuses on factors that can be influenced by the ship owner and operator, thereby facilitating a process of continuous improvement.
