The most recent data from DNV’s Alternative Fuels Insight (AFI) platform reveals that 27 new orders for alternative-fueled vessels were placed in November 2024.
LNG remains the leading fuel choice, representing 23 of these vessels, with the majority (15) coming from the container sector. The month of November also saw significant activity in the car carrier sector, with six new LNG-powered vessels added to the orderbook. Additionally, four new ammonia-fueled vessels were ordered.
We are extremely encouraged by the continued momentum in the alternative-fueled space, with 2024 shaping up to be a record-breaking year.
…said Jason Stefanatos, Global Decarbonization Director, DNV.
While this marks a slight slowdown in new orders for alternative-fueled vessels, it follows a record-setting October and a notable increase in activity since the summer months.
