Jason Stefanatos, Global Decarbonization Director, DNV, has presented DNV’s latest data regarding alternative-fueled vessel orders.
According to Stefanatos, latest figures from DNV’s Alternative Fuels Insight (AFI) platform are in, following a bumper year in 2024. As documented in the platform, a total of 12 new orders for alternative-fuelled vessels were placed in January 2025.
Notably, all these orders were for LNG-fuelled vessels, highlighting the ongoing trend towards LNG in the latter half of 2024.
All new orders came from the container segment, aligning with the patterns observed throughout 2024, where a significant percentage of alternative-fuelled new orders were for container ships.
This trend continues to be driven, in part, by demands from cargo owners and consumers for more sustainable and greener supply chains, Stefanatos finds.
