The Danish Maritime Authority informed that it no longer issues nationality certificates to recreational sailors with vessels below 20 bt. Instead, it has prepared a letter that recreational sailors can bring abroad as a replacement for the nationality certificate.
The Danish Maritime Authority proceeded to this decision because these types of ships are not registered in the Ship Register. Leisure sailors’ organizations may also issue “nationality certificates” to their members.

More specifically, since 1 March 2018, it is no longer possible to register pleasure crafts in Denmark with a gross tonnage below 20. This means that a certificate of nationality cannot be provided for such crafts.
However, a certificate of nationality can instead be issued by private yachtsman organizations in Denmark for their members.
Moreover, the Danish Maritime Authority confirmed that Danish owners of pleasure crafts have the right to sail under the Danish flag, subject to the Danish Maritime Shipping Act.
It should also be mentioned, that boats used only for pleasure boating and owned by Danish citizens are entitled to fly the Danish yacht flag.
