Danish ships always carry a mandatory medicine chest, where the contents of medicaments and equipment are stipulated by an executive order. The Danish Maritime Authority informs that now it is difficult to acquire 7.4 Erythromycin. Persons in charge of medical care on board ships flying the Danish flag must be aware that, at present, the supply of the medicament Erythromycin (7.4 Erythromycin tablets of 500 mg) is problematic. Currently, it is uncertain when the supply of this medicament will be normalised.
Purchase of alternative medicament permitted
For persons in charge of medical care on board ships flying the Danish flag this means that, when the present supply of 7.4 Erythromycin expires and it is no longer possible to acquire new supplies, it is hereby permitted to buy tablets of 500 mg Clarithromycin instead. Please observe that it must not be long-acting tablets!
Quantities to be carried:
A chest: 30 tablets
B chest: 30 tablets
The above applies until the security of supplies has been re-established for Erythromycin.
When acquring tablets of 500 mg Clarithromycin, the person in charge of medical care on board must obtain the user guidelines from the webpage of the Danish Maritime Authority. The user guidelines must be printed and inserted in the “Inventory, control document and user guidelines for medicaments and medical equipment”.
