Despite the recent 6.4 magnitude earthquake in Puerto Rico, which interrupted electrical power service and resulted damage to the one side of the island , the cruise tourism reported to remain unaffected. According to local officials, Puerto Rico’s Old San Juan cruise port welcomed about 15.000 cruise passengers while greeted them with music in the city’s streets.
Carnival Breeze, Oasis of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas were the first cruise ships that arrived in the port with their passengers receiving a kind welcome.

With the cruise tourists arriving in port, San Juan managed to restore electrical power, putting an end to the disruption that the quake caused.
This has been an excellent opportunity to support the message abroad that Puerto Rico is open for business and that the seismic events of the past days should not alter the plans of those who have included the island in their travel itineraries.

As the majority of damage is centered on the south side of the island, Carnival Cruise Line mentioned that their ships calls and guests’ visits are away from the epicenter of the quake. “We are closely monitoring the situation in Puerto Rico following the earthquakes that were reported and are in touch with local authorities and the US Coast Guard” as Carnival noted.
Concluding, according to the Discover Puerto Rico all major hotels are open, the flights are operating normally at the San Juan, Ponce and Aguadilla airports, while all of the San Juan’s vital attraction are fully open for business.
