After having developed an autonomous laboratory vessel with the first complete hydrogen chain, Energy Observer is launching the design of a multipurpose cargo ship fuelled by liquid hydrogen.
The new ship concept is being developed in collaboration with CMA CGM, as well as the naval architecture firm LMG Marin, Ayro, Air Liquide, and Bureau Veritas.
According to Energy Observer, the vessel could be used on intra-continental and coastal routes, that represent an alternative to road transportation and could call at modest ports without heavy logistics.
The design features a 5,000 dwt vessel, that will have a capacity of 240 teu with 480 linear meters for trucks, vehicles, and containers.
The ship will also have a range of up to 4,000 nautical miles, feature 1,000 cu m of liquid hydrogen capacity fuel tanks, and wind-assisted propulsion.
Victorien Erussard, president and founder of Energy Observer, will present the ship on February 10 during the One Ocean Summit in Brest.
