The first IMO 2020 compliant bunker load of low sulphur fuel oil (LSFO) was delivered by oil trader and bunker provider GP Global at Fujairah port in the United Arab Emirates. The 6,000-tonne bunker barge was delivered at the port of Fujairah and is expected to serve this as well as other ports nearby, further helping the UAE to meet the IMO regulation.
Given the rapid approach of IMO’s 2020 regulation, the head of Bunkering, East of Suez, GP Global Group, Anil Keswani stated that
We are thankful to the authorities of the Port of Fujairah and our partners for their continued trust in us, which has enabled us to undertake the first bunkering of LSFO, just in time as the IMO 2020 takes effect next year.

In fact, the GPB1 can deliver to the UAE ports an all-inclusive sequence of unconsumed and distillate marine fuels, such as low-sulphur marine gasoil (LSMGO), LSFO, 180 CST and 380 CST.
There are three more barges at Fujairah. GBP2, the largest of them, is expected to be delivered from mid-October and will be dedicated solely for LSFO in order to meet the demands in the region.
Recently, the Port of Fujairah experienced increased tensions as four commercial vessels were subjected to sabotage, close to United Arab Emirates territorial waters in the Gulf of Oman, followed by another attack against two oil tankers in the Gulf.
