Carnival Corporation, the Miami-based cruise ship major, along with its two cruise line brands, sealed a deal with the authorities of The Bahamas undertaking two essential port developments, constructing a cruise terminal and a pier.
The new cruise port would mostly be developed to adhere to the needs of Carnival Cruise Line on the southern side of the Grand Bahama. Also, this agreement proposes a new addition as well as a pier on the Bahamian island of Little San Salvador, home to Holland America Line’s Half Moon Cay port.
Construction for both projects is expected to begin by mid-2020, after all environmental and allowance processes are completed.

The project suggests an investment of over USD 100 million with the development on Little San Salvador estimated to be almost USD 80 million overtime, according to the cruise major. Such an action would play a vital role in the country’s recovery since the catastrophic effects of Hurricane Dorian.
Moreover, Grand Bahama and Little San Salvador will be in the position to welcome guests from some of the industry’s larger ships due to the development of the projects. In fact, Mardi Gras, the Carnival Cruise Line vessel, will make its appearance in August 2020 as North America’s first cruise ship powered by liquefied natural gas.
Additionally, two of Holland America Line’s newest ships; Koningsdam and Nieuw Statendam are scheduled to visit Half Moon Cay this year. Notably, until the end of 2019, Holland America Line has planned more than 40 cruises to The Bahamas.
